Our Wildflower Meadow is back for 2025
If you’ve visited La Mare recently, you may have noticed something rather spectacular. Nestled between our vineyards and orchards, a vibrant tapestry of wildflowers is now in full bloom. The meadow is buzzing with bees, fluttering with butterflies, and humming with the quiet magic of nature doing what it does best.

This isn’t just a pretty backdrop for an afternoon stroll or the perfect setting for a summer picnic. Our 3.96 vergée (around 1.78 acres) wildflower meadow is a key part of our commitment to sustainability, biodiversity, and regenerative farming. Planted with a carefully selected Pro Flora mix of native wildflowers and fine-leaved grasses, the meadow was designed to create a haven for pollinators and promote healthier soils—while enhancing the beauty of the Estate for everyone to enjoy.

Why a Wildflower Meadow?
At La Mare, we believe that great wine and cider begin with great soil. That means looking after not just our vines and apple trees, but the entire ecosystem they grow within. Wildflower meadows support pollinators like bees and butterflies, which in turn play an essential role in the health of our orchards and vines.

As Head Winemaker Jordi Sanvicens Moreno puts it:
“The meadow is more than a beautiful feature—it’s a living ecosystem that directly supports the pollination of our apple trees and vines. It’s part of a bigger picture of traceability, sustainability, and respect for the land.”

A Step Towards Organic Certification
This flourishing habitat also reflects an important milestone in our journey toward full organic certification. Following a recent inspection, both the meadow and our traditional Jersey orchards are now in the final stages of receiving certification from the Soil Association. Our 16.44 vergée of orchards (approximately 7.31 acres) are expected to be fully certified by September 2025.
While we don’t produce certified organic cider (due to the practical challenges of separating organic and non-organic production equipment), all our apple-based drinks—including cider, brandy, and apple cream liqueur—are made using organic-certified fruit grown here on the Estate. That means full traceability from soil to glass.

Visit the Meadow
The meadow is open to visitors throughout the summer, and we warmly invite you to experience it for yourself. Whether you’re meandering along the vineyard path, enjoying a glass of something sparkling at the café, or joining one of our guided tastings, the wildflowers are a reminder of the natural beauty and care that goes into everything we do.

This is more than a burst of seasonal colour—it’s a symbol of our long-term dedication to regenerative farming, sustainability, and producing exceptional products with integrity and character.
