La Mare Wine Estate Sets a New Standard for Sustainable Meetings in the Channel Islands
Sustainability isn’t just a buzzword anymore — it’s becoming a benchmark for how we do business, how we meet, and how we measure success.
That’s why we’re thrilled to share that La Mare Wine Estate has achieved Gold Accreditation for Green Meetings, becoming the first venue in the Channel Islands to do so.
This isn’t about ticking boxes or chasing trends. It’s about recognising what truly matters — people, place, and planet — and finding ways to make every meeting, conference, and event a little more meaningful.
What Exactly Is a Green Meeting?
Think of Green Meetings as the gold standard (literally) for sustainable venues. Developed by Green Business, the world’s largest sustainable certification programme, it’s a framework built around the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, assessing venues on three key pillars:
-
People Goals – how venues engage with their communities, support wellbeing, and champion equality.
-
Places Goals – how they manage their destination impact, travel, and the delegate experience.
-
Planet Goals – how they handle energy, water, waste, carbon, and chemical use.
Venues are independently assessed by trained sustainability practitioners, with certifications awarded at Bronze, Silver, or Gold. Gold means excellence across every category — and that’s exactly where La Mare sits.
Where We Excelled
Our assessors highlighted La Mare’s outstanding performance, especially in People Goals and Community Engagement.
“Our organic orchards and meadows are certified by the Organic Soil Association, and every aspect of our estate is designed with sustainability in mind,” explains Tim Crowley, Managing Director of La Mare Wine Estate. “La Mare perfectly aligns with businesses seeking Green Meetings spaces, not just because of our award-winning estate, but because we embed sustainable practices into everything we do.”
From energy-efficient lighting and biodiversity initiatives to local sourcing and waste reduction, sustainability runs through every layer of how we operate. It’s also part of our commitment to Jersey’s Carbon Neutral Roadmap — a vision we’re proud to support through tangible, transparent action.
Why It Matters for Businesses
More and more, organisations are rethinking the way they gather. A meeting venue isn’t just about square footage and screens anymore — it’s about values.
Businesses want spaces that reflect their own sustainability goals. Certification matters because it provides proof, not promises. When you host your event at La Mare, you’re not only supporting local enterprise — you’re partnering with a venue that’s verified against globally recognised standards.
Looking Ahead
Earning Gold Accreditation is a proud moment, but it’s not the finish line. It’s a foundation to build on.
As the first Green Meetings Gold venue in the Channel Islands, La Mare Wine Estate is setting a new benchmark for environmentally responsible hospitality — one that we hope will inspire other venues to follow suit.
Because sustainability isn’t a single project. It’s a mindset. And we’re just getting started.
