New La Mare bags

La Mare Wine Estate’s customers are the first in the Island to bag a new eco-friendly
shopper.

Earlier this month the local business introduced sugar cane polythene shopping bags
which are 100% recyclable and made from a sustainable and renewable plant-based
resource.

La Mare’s Managing Director Tim Crowley said: “As an accredited Gold member of
Green Tourism UK and a Jersey Eco Active Business Leader we are keen advocates of
sustainability.”

“We are really impressed with the new bags which we believe are not only a first for
Jersey but also the best green alternative to current oil-based ingredients. The
polythene from which they are made absorbs CO2 whilst the plant is growing, thereby
reducing CO2 in the atmosphere.”

“In addition, these bags are made in the UK, so they also offer a significantly lower
carbon footprint some other options. We hope to see other local businesses following
our lead and investing in more sustainable packaging solutions.”
