Harvest at La Mare is best since 1976

The heatwave this summer provided excellent conditions for winemaking at La Mare Wine Estate in St Mary.

The unusually warm and sunny conditions throughout June and early July means that the 2018 growing season has resulted in unprecedented returns in terms of quality and quantity of the harvest at Jersey’s only commercial vineyard.

Commenting on the conditions Daniel de Carteret, Production Manager at La Mare said, “It’s the best I’ve ever known it. The vines flowered well with fruit setting early thanks to the weather and we began the harvest around two weeks earlier than ususal.”

Tim Crowley, Managing Director added, “Growing conditions have been ideal, the best since 1976, and this shows in both excellent quality and high yield. The 2018 La Mare harvest is shaping up to be our biggest and best vintage yet.”
