Introduction

La Mare Wine Estate and Distillery is a unique venue situated in the beautiful Jersey countryside, comprising a working estate of vineyards, orchards and beautiful grounds.  Established in 1972, La Mare has grown from a small vineyard into a busy tourism attraction, wedding and corporate venue as well as producing a range of local products.  Set in the peaceful grounds of a traditional 18th century granite farmhouse, La Mare Wine Estate is a working 25 acre domain, committed to creating the very best wines, ciders and spirits, along with hand-made preserves, fudge, chocolates and Jersey Black Butter, produced within the Genuine Jersey range.

1. Job Purpose: The Role

The Catering Supervisor reports directly to the Head of Sales & Events. This role will work to deliver the sales targets and profitability of all the catering within the Vineyard Café and on site catered events of the La Mare Wine Estate. The role also involves supporting the Events Manager in the aim of delivering the best possible eating or event experience for customers. 

As a guide the focus of this role during the peak season should be weighted as 80% Café, 10% Weddings and Events assistance, and 10% retail and other varied roles. There are obvious seasonal elements so this is a ‘best estimate’. 

Off season, you will be required to work in all other areas of the business (such as, but not limited to – retail, packing and hamper production).

2. Responsibilities – Accountabilities

2.1 Supervising the staff teams across the catering front of house including, training, internal communication and performance management with special focus on developing and maintaining a strong team who are able to deliver excellent customer service and delivery of the vineyard café service.

2.2 Ensure you are an ambassador for the Vineyard Café and events when required. This will include professional and swift resolution to any customer complaint issues that arise.

2.3 Achieve financial objectives through setting a catering budget with the Head of Sales & Events as well as ensuring ALL sales and wastage are recorded accurately through the café till.

2.3 Manage the full customer experience for the Vineyard Café. This will involve liaising with the Head Chef to agree menus, resources and requirements.

2.4 Ensure staff adhere to the Health and Safety policy and that relevant trained first aiders and fire wardens are in place. 

2.5 Support the needs of the business by arranging cover for other areas of the Estate as and when required. 

2.6 Prepare updated reports on the Vineyard Café activities for the Head of Sales & Events as and when required.

2.7 Maintain control of staff costs, budgets and sales reports including wastage

2.8 Attend any training courses that are deemed to be necessary for you to fulfil your role in a more professional and knowledgeable manner

3. Skills – Knowledge – Experience

3.1 Proven supervisory experience in a catering environment, with the ability to lead others.

3.2 Excellent interpersonal and influential skills combining diplomacy with the ability to manage and motivate staff and have excellent customer skills.

3.3 Drive and energy to lead a team and keep them on board and working to team standards.

3.4 Cross-functional working skills.

3.5 A creative and open-minded approach to problem solving.

Excellent organisational and communication skills are necessary to turn ideas into reality.  Good time management skills are a must together with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels both orally and in writing.

 

Pay dependent on experience, £10+ per hour.
