Cider and orchards are an important part of Jersey's heritage.
Years ago the island was covered in apple orchards and cider production was important business for Jersey - at its peak, about 8 million litres (1¾ million gallons) were made during 1801.
La Mare has played an important role in the reintroduction of cider apple orchards to Jersey, with the success of the original test plantation, we are now working with many growers on the island looking to diversify away from potatoes, and plant new orchards.
The majority of the cider we produce goes towards making Jersey Apple Brandy in our century old Calvados pot still, but more and more is being made into "Pompette" and "The Original" ciders as new orchards come into production around the island.
